Derry GSA Constitution
A GSA is a gay-straight alliance. In essence, it will be a safe space for students to meet and talk not just about sexuality but how being a part of the LGBT+ community or even an ally affects us in our daily lives. For many it could be name calling, sexual slurs, or even full on sexual harassment being thrown in their direction because of who they are and/or who they love. These things happen, believe it or not they do. Many people chose not to speak up preferring silence for fear of being bullied worse. A GSA in Derry will be a safe haven for us to talk about these things and deal with them in a positive manner. Not only that we will have a teacher we know and trust that we can talk to.
Anyone in Derry Area can join! In this club, we will have a zero tolerance policy. If a person clearly makes an offensive comment on purpose, then it will be removal from the group immediately. If someone appears to be joking or appears to say something and not realize it’s offensive, then we will give them one warning and after that warning it will be removal from the group. To keep track of attendance, we will utilize a program called CheckIn. Basically, whenever a new member signs up, we will give them a name tag. On the back of the name tag there is a QR code. We will scan the QR code to check them in. In the instance they forget it, we will just edit the check in the system. We will also utilize this method for whenever we go on trips to keep track of everyone.
We will plan ahead of time on a schedule with the teachers that are involved. During these meetings, we will discuss new plans and things that are upcoming. On certain days, we will talk about events that happened that are maybe sensitive or maybe needs to be taken off our chest. On these days, we will be sure to avoid sensitive topics unless brought up by our members. On other days, will discuss new things, like fundraisers and how to pair up with other clubs so that we can be the most interactive club. After school, there will be an activity and food set aside. The activity is preplanned by the council and the teachers.
We will have a series of four officers. The President. The president will be expected to do the following: Conduct and preside over a regular Key Club meeting, create and abide by an agenda for our weekly meeting, keep officers on task and provide assistance for committees to run smoothly, lead the entire membership in a well-rounded program of activities and projects, ensure that delinquent members are handled properly, meet with our faculty advisor to discuss agenda points and current club issues, make sure that each officer is aiding the committee to which he/she is assigned, keep a file of all correspondence, work alongside board members to ensure that they are doing their tasks, arrange and conduct a board of directors meeting. work with the committee chairs on their proposed projects for the coming month, make sure all monthly reports are submitted on time, communicate with the student council and school administration, make a list of the coming month’s activities and post it so members are aware of the schedule, and organize or participate in inter-clubs. The vice president is next, they will be expected to due all the president's duties, if the president is gone. They will also be expected to assist the president in these expectations. Next is the secretary. The secretary is there to support the vice president, if needed, and also, keep notes in all the meetings, keep track of attendance, digitalized all the documents so that it is available to everyone. The last officer is the treasure. They will keep track of all of our money, and work with the president to see what the best course of action is and how the club should spend its money. They will also work with our fundraisers, the things we may sell, help organize events funded by our club, and assist the secretary if needed.
